The Premier League title race entered a new phase of parity on Saturday as two separate results converged to eliminate Manchester City's lead. The league leaders dropped their first points of the campaign, allowing their nearest rivals to close a three-point gap in a single weekend.

Manchester City fell 2-1 at Aston Villa, ending an unbeaten start to the season. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for the hosts, extending Villa's winning streak against the champions to three consecutive league matches. The defeat halted City at 21 points after eight games, a tally now matched by Arsenal.

Arsenal secured the necessary points with a 2-0 victory over Everton in heavy rain at the Emirates Stadium. The win erased the deficit and placed both clubs level at the summit. The result also marked the first set-piece goal for the Gunners since May, breaking a 13-game drought in all competitions.

Ezri Konsa opened the scoring in the seventh minute after Martin Odegaard's corner found the ball unclaimed in the box. Gabriel added the second in the 68th minute, heading in a cross from Ben White. Both players were making milestone appearances, with White playing his 200th for the club and Gabriel featuring in his 200th Premier League match.

City’s defeat occurred while the club navigates an ongoing financial dispute. An independent commission recently identified 114 breaches of league rules, a finding City has contested. The team is currently awaiting the outcome of its appeal. Nicolas Jackson of Villa described the period as just the beginning for his side as they continue their league campaign.

Other results further reshuffled the middle of the table. Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, a rare win for the visitors in recent history. Mathys Tel scored the final goal in the 87th minute. Fulham also secured a 1-0 victory over Coventry City, with Oscar Bobb scoring late in the 80th minute.
