A 36-year-old British woman died in the Bahamas on Tuesday after a strong current swept her away during a snorkeling trip.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed the woman was from Stapleford in Nottinghamshire. She was with her husband and two sons near the southern tip of Bimini. A powerful current reportedly carried both boys from the group. The woman entered the water to reach them and was also pulled under.

Rescuers retrieved the two boys from the water. They were unharmed. The woman was pulled from the sea and brought to the North Bimini Ferry Dock. Local witnesses administered CPR at the dock before paramedics transported her to a clinic.

A doctor at the clinic pronounced her dead shortly after 10:00 a.m. local time. The police force stated that foul play is not suspected in this incident. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the precise medical cause of death.

The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is coordinating with local authorities. A spokesperson said the department is providing consular support to the family. This incident adds to a series of recent tourism safety concerns in the Caribbean region.
