Ukraine Drives Drones at 250 mph Again
Defense officials confirm satellite speeds returned to normal after a week of operational disruption at the front.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara announced on Saturday that full satellite speeds for front-line equipment have been restored. The update confirms that drones and other fast-moving assets can again operate at velocities exceeding 250 mph. This change ends a period of speed limits that lasted more than a week. Officials stated that the restrictions previously disrupted military operations along the front line.
Khmara told reporters that ministry monitoring systems now show stable connections for objects moving at high speeds. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy verified that both Starlink and Starshield are functioning at the required levels. Starshield is the military-grade version of the satellite service provided by SpaceX. Zelenskyy noted that the restoration began the previous night. By the following morning, speeds were sufficient for standard use.
The return to normal service is critical for front-line logistics, according to Zelenskyy. The president emphasized the need to protect Ukraine from reactive Shahed drones. These Iranian-made aircraft are regularly launched by Russia. Zelenskyy stated that the stable connection is very important for these defensive efforts.
Last week, the restrictions on Starshield caused concern among Ukrainian military and government leaders. Commanders reported losing drones and facing disrupted missions during the outage. The episode strained relations between Kyiv and Washington. Tensions had already risen due to a reported deal between President Donald Trump and Moscow regarding Russian diesel imports. Ukrainian officials viewed that arrangement as a betrayal.
Khmara attributed the resolution to direct dialogue and Zelenskyy's diplomacy with the United States. He highlighted the impact on the front line, military operations, and communications. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to American partners and others who took the situation seriously. He said their assistance was genuinely helpful in restoring the service.
The restoration coincides with new diplomatic efforts to end the war. U.S. envoys have initiated a push for a conclusion. Russia agreed on Wednesday to resume three-way negotiations with Washington and Kyiv next month. On Friday, Kyiv and Moscow agreed to a localized ceasefire around Oleshky. This Russian-occupied town is located in the southern Kherson region. First Lady Melania Trump brokered the truce.
Questions remain about who ordered the interruptions to the satellite internet system. Ukraine has relied on Elon Musk's company for years to counter Russian attacks. Trump has maintained that he did not make the call to limit speeds. He also stated that Musk should not be blamed for the disruption.
